book 3

Book Title: The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer

Reflect:
I was really amazed with the author because he was so brave to make his a life a book. It inspired me to always believe in my dreams and to never let it go. It may not come true now but I know, someday I will achieve it. I will hold on to my dream no matter how many trials I may encounter. Every person has its own story to tell and I'am glad that I have read one. He went to many challenges, struggles and difficulties but he never gave up. He sometimes loses hope but because of the people around him and the bar, he always finds reasons to stand up again. He told his mistakes, how it changed his life and how he overcome them. He also told his love story. How he was hurt and got broken by his first love and how can love make someone go crazy. How he hoped that the one he loves would come back. Even though he grew up without a father, he still became a good man and a son. He still continued his life without his father and he forgave him. Forgiveness is difficult to give specially to someone who don't deserve it. He grew up with his mother which became his father, teacher and protector. He grew up seeing his mother working all day and getting stressed with the bills. He promised to himself that he will become a successful lawyer. Growing up without a father and having a supportive mother became his foundation and inspiration in life. Growing up without a complete family is difficult but he found another family and home. The Dickens-the tender bar, became his new home and he had a new family.

Connect:
In the novel, young JR struggled on what he was and what he wanted to be. He first dreamed to be a lawyer. He wanted to be a lawyer because a lawyer have a high salary and he wants to earn money so that he can help his mother and he can send her back to school. He wanted to have a lot of money so his mother will not be stressed about their bills. He always tell people that he will be a lawyer. But while studying college at Yale, he realized that being a lawyer is not for him. Upon entering college, there are a lot of things that he learned which change the way he see things and later changed his life. He graduated with the course Bachelor of Arts Major in History. He always love to read and write which inspired me. He realized that he wants to be a reporter. He worked at New York Times company as a photocopier boy and hoped that he will become a reporter soon. He worked hard and passed some of his articles. But upon working on the company, after some struggles and challenges, he later realized that being a writer is what he really wants. He want to pursue becoming a writer but her mother did not agreed on him. He did not like him to become a writer because she said that being a writer cannot lead him to a bright future. The future is not certain if he pursue being a writer. At first his mother did not approved but he showed his mother that he will become a successful writer. Later, his mother supported him and was very proud of him.
When I was young, my ambition is to become an IT Expert. I dreamed to take up Information Technology (IT) when I go to college. But fortunately-as I later realized it, I did not pursue it. I have the chances and choices but I don't have the control over the situation. May parents are not in favor of me taking up IT, and said that I have no bright future if I take up IT. They also said that I will not have a stable job. But I think their main reason on not letting me enter a computer based college is because we can not afford it. Computer schools are expensive and we can not pay the high tuition and miscellaneous fee. They also threatened me that if I insist on taking up IT, they will not send me to school. I have no other choice but to study in Mindanao State University and taking up a course that i don't like. It's not that I don't like it because I hate it but because I just simply don't like it. Even though at first i did not pike it, later I learn to love my course and maybe my fate is to become an AB English student. I will pursue my course but I think after I graduated, I will study again and take up IT in a computer school. This is now my new dream.I will grab the chance to make my dream come true. And this time, I will not let it go.

Questions:
I wonder why people always have difficulty in choosing their careers? If that is really their dream, why would they just let it go? Why people always blame life? That life is unfair, injustice and full of sufferings. Its not life who controls us. It is us who control it. Its just a bad day but its not a bad life. I wonder why people changes their dream when they grow older. Maybe because they became mature and thought the better things that they needed. Thought of a more in demand job to provide their needs. But what about their dreams? Why did they abandoned it? Its their foundation upon growing up. How could they possible forget their dreams? Why do most of the people make their dreams come true when they are in the middle of their years? Why after graduating? Why after getting their job? Did they have another priority? Why did they forgotten their dreams? And why on earth a when a man falls in love, he gets crazy? Women also get crazy when it comes to love but I never thought that a man cannot move on far more than a woman does. It takes them years. Why? Did they just loved the woman very much that they cant move on? Or because they cant accept that they are over? I wonder why people think love is complicated but in fact its just simple. If two people are meant for each other, they will always be together no matter what-its a cliche but that is still the best definition why love is simple.

Predict:
I think that the bar will become famous than any other bar at Manhattan and it will have more branch. It will never close. I also think that he will meet his father and they will become closer. I think his mother will not have an illness and will have a nice job. I think that JR will become a successful lawyer and will marry a girl that he loves and they will have children. I also think that he will live with his grandpa and grandma peacefully. They will become okay specially his relationship with his grandpa. He will meet more people. I think he will become the new owner of Dickens.

Part Two:
11. My favorite part is when JR Moehringer graduated from college. I was very excited on what will happen next. What life will offer him after he graduated. After four years of struggling, suffering and dreaming, finally he graduated. He can finally make his dream come true. When he graduated, he changed his dream of being a lawyer to a reporter. I predict that things will be harder after he graduated. It will not be easy as he thinks. He will have more challenges to overcome. I think he will find a job that will lead to his dream. I also think that he can be a successful lawyer and soon will be the owner of Dickens. I think he will buy Dickens and he will make more branches of it. He will also have more money that he will send his mother back to school. He will now provide the needs of his family. I feel that him and his father will be reunited. I also think that he can do whatever he wants. I think he will buy a new house for him and for his mother and he will repair the house of his grandparents. I think he will a family and children. After graduating is just the beginning of his life.

Abakada Ina is a movie that tells about motherly love. It's for all the mothers or women who give their best for their children. Even if life is so difficult, they never want their children to feel their sufferings before they came into their life. It shows how a mother wil fight for her children and the things she will do to protect the family that she built with love. The sacrifices that a mother makes for her children. This is about the love of mother to her child and what she will do for them. You can feel how difficult it is to become a mother. This movie also shows how important education is. It shows the reality of life when one does not go to school. The disadvantages when one cannot read and write. It shows how important it is to go to school not only for one to have experiences but to learn. Learn things that one can only learn in school.

It is a story about an illiterate woman named Estella played by Lorna Tolentino who is looked down by her mother-in-law Miling, Nida Blanca, who was a teacher because for her, she is dumb and useless. Miling feels like it is a big mistake that her son, which is played by Albert Martinez, married Estella. Daniel and Estella had a three beautiful daughters. Living with her mother-in-law was difficult because of her lack of knowledge about things, they always argue. Miling wanted to separate her children from her because she doesn't want that her grand children will be illiterate like their mother. The feelings of Estella's children towards her is slowly vanishing because of Miling. One time, when one of her daughters was sick and because she cannot read, she gave a wrong medicine. she tried to be a mother to her children. Also her husband, Daniel is also vanishing because of some reasons. they separated but in the end they were together again and they struggled to get back their family. And even if they are away from each other, Estella and Daniel knows that they will be together again.

I can conclude that education is one of the most important thing in life. One cannot survive without education. If he survives, he will find it very difficult. Education plays a very important role in one's life. Not going to school is like missing the one-half of your life. You can learn many things, will experience many unforgettable memories and will meet many people. I can not imagine life without education. I was also touched with the role of Lorna, how she portrayed the role of a mother. How difficult it is if your mother-in-law did not like you and if you don't go to school. How she felt when everything seems to leave her, alone. How she overcome it and cope up with it. Becoming a mother is like becoming a soldier. You will fight until the end and if you fall, you will always find the courage to stand up again. I think, education and most importantly, motherly love is this film's purpose. They want people to know the two f the most important in life. Family and education.
