Book title: The Suitcase Kid by Jacqueline Wilson

Reflect:

Andrea West had a complete and happy family but not until her parents decided to separate. It is a very difficult decision but her parents already have different families. She was left and her only companion is her pet rabbit -radish. She lived one week on her mother and another one week on her father. I was amazed with the hope that Andy has. She always believed that one day, her mom and dad will be together again and this is just a bad horrible nightmare. I also like her fair judgement that she never chose any of her parents because she both loves them. She never thought that one is greater than the other. They treated them fairly. I was touched with this story because I really felt the sadness. When they left their old house and Andy still went there. When she remembers how they used to, what they do, how happy they are. Her mother is already living with Bill the Baboon-who she doesn't like, and his children namely Paula, Graham and Katie. Katie is the same age as Andy and they always fight. Katie always bully her and when Andy fights back, Katie cries and her mother thinks that it is her fault so she thinks her mother does not love her. Her only friend in that house is Graham which she can come along with. In the new family of her father, he is with Carrie-who is pregnant, and her twins Zoe and Crystal. Because Carries is pregnant, she was threatened that she will not be her fathers little Andy and he will not love her. She was very afraid that she thought no one loves her and she will never have a happy family. Until one day, Radish fell from a hole in the backyard tree of a house and she did not came home. She had a dream that her parents reunited and they live in their house again -the Mulberry Cottage, and that was the most beautiful dream that one can have. When she woke up, she met the owner of the house. They are Arthur and Gladys Peters. Because she doesn't have grandparents, she treated them as one and she realized that she still have a happy family. When Carrie gave birth to a baby girl, Andy accepted her and named her Zoe.

Connect:

This story made me think of my classmate whom I borrowed this book. Her life is somewhat similar to the life of Andy. Her parents separated when she was young and she is with her mother. The difference is her mother does not has a new family, her father is. She grew up without a father in her side and she hates her father so much for having a mistress and leaving them. Her mother is the only one who supports her and her two siblings. Her mother works hard for them but her father does not really support them especially in finance. He just gives money once a month that they can't feel his support. When she was young, she lives with her mother in Glan but when she was in high school, she transferred in the school where I go. This was the turning point of her life that she learned how cruel and unfair life is. Because her mother is far, she just lived in her Uncles and Aunts for three years. She is one of the persons who are called NPA (No Permanent Address) Because of these, she became stronger and independent. She learned many things she never thought she can do. She is a close friend of mine and I know, she can to this story. She always cries when it comes to family stories or about dads but I know she is a tough girl. Because of this incident, she hates boys and she has a high standard. But I believe that someday she will forgive her father and she will be whatever she want to be. Her character is like Andy who is strong, full of hope and loves her family so much. I know someday, she will have the happy family that she wants like Andy did.

Question:

I wonder why Andy never lost hope when her parents separated. It is very hard to adjust but its like so easy for her to do it. Did she ever thought of forgetting all these things and just go away? Go to a place where she can find a new home. Did she ever thought that she will be in this situation? That her parents will separate and she needs to decide where she will leave? How did she overcome the pain that she felt? Why did she still loved her parents after what they've done to her? Can love heal all wounds? Why is she so understanding?


Predict:
I think Andrea will have her family complete again. She will have a new sibling. They will again on Mulberry Cottage. She will forgive her parents after all they did. She will grew up and become a lawyer. they will be a happy family again and they will make their own family business. She will be happy and she will grew up as a beautiful lady someday.


Part Two:

11. If I were Andrea West, I would be sad and happy. Sad because I have to go through to this difficult challenge and I don't know if I can do this. I would be sad because y family will separate and I have to choose between the two of them. i love them both and I don't want them, to separate so I will be sad because i know i'm just a child and I can do nothing about it. I would be happy because I know, God gave me this kind of challenge because he believes in me and I no I can go through this. I was surprised when Andy dreamed about her family being complete again. I start to be confused on the story and thought that all of those are just a dream. But at last, Andy woke up and she realized that it is really happening to her and her dream of having a complete family again will remain a dream.I grew up on my Aunt since I was a child. although my parents never separated, I was never given a chance to be with them. I always wanted to sleep at my parents house but faith never brought us together. I know the feeling of choosing between a member of your family because they always pressure me that I have to choose between my real parents and foster parents. I love them both that I will choose the both of them.

Book Title: The Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Reflect:

Collin Singleton is not a normal person. He is a prodigy. He is smart but he is not a genius. He likes to anagram and make theories about dumpers and dumpees. It is not easy to become smart. Many will adore you, hate you and will not understand you. But he has a best friend that understands him even in his worst attitude. I was amazed with the intelligence that Collin has specially when it comes to anagraming. I find it so amazing when he makes graphs, even though I am not good math, and make conclusions about being dumped. I really like the friendship of Collin and Hassan Harbish. I'am not used to a guy friendship, on what they do, what they talk, what they think and how they understand ones attitude but they both showed how deep their relationship is. Guy friendship is less deeper than girls friendship. Guys easily become friends with other guys at a short time but girls treat a person as a friend if they have known each other for a long time. I also like the attitude of Hassan towards Collin. How he handles the behavior of Collin. He always understands his attitude even if Collin is being self-centered sometimes. Hassan always helps Collin to move on and recover from his failed relationship with his girlfriends named Katherine. I also knew what a boy feels when a girl dumped him and how he tries to move on after a break up. For me, it is so brave for a person to fall in love again after a failed relationship. Even if all the 18 girlfriends that he have are named Katherine, they are all not the same. He still gets attracted whenever he meets a girl named Katherine. Collin realized that even though you think you already know the future, you can never know if it will happen. Although he made theories, graphs about dumpers and dumpees-when will a relationship end and how long they will last, he realized that one can never know what will happen on the future. You may predict but you will never know if it will happen. Collin also realized that it is not based on the name, even though all his girlfriends are named Katherine, it is based on how show you love person and it does not matter if she is not named Katherine. He changed his concept of liking all the Katherine that he knows when he met Lindsey Lee Wells. She is not named Katherine but he loved more than all the Katherine that he met.

Connect: 

I always that guys friendship is not as deep and as complicated as girls friendship are. But Collin and Hassan proved that it is deeper as any girl friendships and as complicated as any relationship. Hassan is a Muslim while Collin is a Jew. Collin is not really a Christian, as he said he is, but he is called by Hassan as a Christian. If you will base on their religion, you will think that it is hard for them to get along which other because they have different faith but they proved that they still have a good communication even in religion. Collin knows some Muslim words and sentences and Hassan always tells him to believe in God. Although they have different religion, it did not became a hindrance for them to not understand and respect each other. 

Like in MSU, (Mindanao State University) the school is community where Muslims and Christians are free to express what they feel. The Muslims and Christians respect each other. One another understand that they each have a different faith. We interact with each other everyday knowing that we respect them as they respect us. I have a class that is a block of Islamic Studies, which means most of my classmates are Muslims. At first, knowing that my classmates are Muslims and I'am a Christian, I thought that it will be hard for me to adjust and to get along with them. But as many meetings passed, I learned a lot about their culture and I realized that is easy to adjust to them, easier as I adjusted to my block mates. They share what they know about their religion and they also learn from us. We learn from each other. Now, I started to like Islam and Muslim people. They are not what I thought they are. I realized that we are some what a like. I know now why it us called "The Way of Life". I do not also make prejudice now when it cones to other religions because we are all the same. Just different names, but same God.

All of Collins girlfriends are named Katherine-except for his new girlfriend, because he always gets attracted to a girl named Katherine. Even though he was dumped by a Katherine, his new girlfriend will always be named Katherine. Like what we do. Even if we are hurt by a person, we still continue to love that person. We still make the same mistake over and over again. Even if it hurts, we still do it because we love that person. No matter how dumb we look, we still make the same mistake.

Question:

I wonder why Collin is always attracted to a girl whose name is Katherine? Except for her new girlfriend, did he ever liked a girl who is not named Katherine? Why did she made theories about being dumped? Is it really reliable to other person? Did he planned to liked all the Katherine that he met and made them as his girlfriend or it is just a coincidence? Did he loved all of them? Why did most of his relationships last only for days? Did he not took it seriously? How can one love another after a failed relationship if they both have the same name? If he has a new girlfriend named Katherine, did he not remember the pain that he felt when his ex-girlfriend also named Katherine dumped him? When he have a new girlfriend named Katherine, did he remembered the other Katherine that he had a relationship in past? Who is the person that he can remember when he hears the name Katherine? Why do people make the same mistakes over and over again?

Predict:

I think Collin will be a scientist after he graduated college. He will become famous. I think he will find a new girlfriend whose name is not Katherine. I also think that he will met a girl named Katherine but he will realize that he loves the other girl who is not named Katherine and the name does not matter. Hassan will chose to go to college and have a girlfriend as well.

Part two:


Collin Singleton - He is a prodigy. He likes to anagram, make theories and graphs. His girlfriends are all named Katherine. He gets attracted to all the girl who named Katherine. He is selfish sometimes but he is aware of that. He realized that the theories he made are not always applicable specially when it comes to love. His 19th girlfriend is Lindsey. Her first girlfriend that is not named Katherine.


Hassan Harbish - He is the best friend of Collin. Unlike Collin, he is a normal person. He is a Muslim. He don't want to go to college because for him, it is just a waste of time and because they are rich, he doesn't need more money anymore. He is a good friend. Every time Collin needs him, he is always there.




Lindsey Lee Wells - She is in love with a boy than he wanted ever since she was a child. She changed her appearance for that boy. She is not close to her mother and she doesn't treat her like one. Collin is his second boyfriend and accidentally, her first boyfriend is also named Collin.
